Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees

Following the tragic shooting of two National Guard members in the nation’s capital that left one dead and the other in serious condition, the Trump administration has exploited the tragedy by unleashing a torrent of xenophobic rhetoric and new policy announcements targeting lawful migration pathways and immigrant and refugee communities.

Employing collective punishment based on the violent act of an individual, the administration announced they would not only halt the issuance of visas for anyone traveling with an Afghan passport, but also entirely suspend all asylum decisions, regardless of an individual’s country of origin.

In light of these emerging developments, Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees will hold a special funder briefing to explore what philanthropy can do in this moment to respond to these attacks. We will hear from frontline organizations working to defend and support Afghan and Somali communities, as well as movement leaders seeking to preserve the asylum and refugee settlement systems, with recommendations for philanthropic action.

Target Audience

Staff and board members of foundations, corporate-giving programs, philanthropic consultancies, affinity groups, and invited governmental grantmaking agencies.
