California Jobs First: Philanthropic Sector Meeting (San Diego)
Wednesday, May 29 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
During the first regional meeting for the San Diego philanthropic sector, we will introduce the California Jobs First initiative, reviewing the $14 million capacity and pilot project funding. We will also review all 15 regional sector and discuss potential collaborative learning interests.
The Coalition is currently reviewing the draft regional plan for revisions to ensure that the final plan reflects community priorities and emphasizes equity.
California Jobs First is a $600 million Regional Investment Initiative of the State of California to “create high-quality, accessible jobs and help build resilience to the effects of climate change and other global disruptions impacting the state’s diverse regional economies.”
The Southern Border Coalition (Imperial and San Diego Counties) seeks to facilitate the development of a regional economic development plan that empowers, uplifts, and facilitates community ownership in decision making for the region and, especially, disinvested communities by fostering equity and creating sustainable opportunities for growth.
Imperial Valley Community Foundation and Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties serve as sector leads for philanthropy in Imperial and San Diego Counties, respectively. The goal of these working groups is to identify ways that philanthropic contributions, networks, and advocacy can enhance community capacity and influence in shaping the regional plan and priorities. In addition, we will look for opportunities to add to public funding in support of projects identified through California Jobs First.
