Indigenous Futures Institute Funders Briefing
Wednesday, November 20 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Join the Indigenous Futures Institute (IFI) on November 20 to hear from the founders and leadership of IFI, share a meal with local leaders, and learn about current IFI projects that include Native women’s leadership, traditional basketry; food sovereignty; reclaiming the narrative of universities on Indigenous land; and more.
Established in 2020, the Indigenous Futures Institute (IFI) at UCSD gathers knowledge keepers and faculty from a diverse array of backgrounds and represents the largest collective of Indigenous intellectuals in the UC system. IFI is an interdisciplinary research incubator focused on advancing community partnerships and science accomplished through Indigenous leadership.
The “futures” approach invites participants to rethink policies, practices, and beliefs in ways that include Indigenous knowledge and communities in co-creating solutions tailored to our San Diego region and beyond. IFI’s members work in three modes:
- Community Engagement: IFI supports and uplifts women-led projects that address tribal concerns.
- Action Labs: Convene scholars from multiple cultural backgrounds to collaborate with Indigenous communities across institutions and places.
- Dream Tanks: Host public discussions, lectures, maker-spaces, and other community dialogues that inspire Indigenous innovation, creativity, and resurgence.
Join us on November 20 to spend time envisioning a new future of philanthropic support that advances wellbeing for Indigenous people and us all.
