Do the Work is making its return in 2025 with an overnight trip to the United States/Mexico border. Participants will hear insights from those directly impacted by immigration policies, including the organizations working tirelessly to support humanitarian, legal, case management, and inclusion needs. We will also explore how evolving federal, state, and local policies shape communities and the critical work happening on the ground.

Hotel Information

We have a room block listed under “Catalyst” at the Best Western Plus Marina Gateway Hotel in National City at a rate of $176/night for 5/12 and 5/13 (check out on 5/14). To reserve your room, please call Denise Halliwell at 619.540.5476.

Reservations must be made by April 12 to receive the group rate and guarantee the room.

Target Audience

This program is open to any funder interested in learning more about issues at the Southern Border.

Those joining this trip will be traveling to Tijuana. Please be aware that traveling outside the country carries inherent risks, and you should consider this when deciding whether or not to participate.

More details, including an agenda and resources, will be shared upon registration. Please refer to this FAQ for further questions:

What time will the tour days begin and end on May 13 and 14?

We’ll be starting bright and early each day around 8:00am.  On the first day, we will end with an unprogrammed dinner from 6:00p-8:00p.  On Day 2, the end time will be dependent on how long it takes to cross the border from Tijuana back into San Diego, but we estimate to return around 5:00p.

How much walking will there be throughout the tour?

Both of the days will include foot tours, as well as getting on and off a bus several times throughout the day. We encourage attendees to wear comfortable shoes. If you have any specific accessibility needs to support your comfort and mobility, please contact Aline Racic at [email protected].

When will the agenda be shared?

More detailed agenda information will be shared with registrants as we get closer to the tour date.  Given the evolving nature on the ground, the agenda is subject to change.

Are attendees required to stay overnight in a hotel?

Attendees are not required to stay overnight at the hotel, but the hotel will be our starting and ending point each day. We have secured a room block listed under “Catalyst” at the Best Western Plus Marina Gateway Hotel in National City at a rate of $176/night for 5/12 and 5/13 (check out on 5/14).

To reserve your room, please call Denise Halliwell at 619.540.5476. Reservations must be made by April 12 to receive the group rate and guarantee the room.

Is the hotel reservation included in the price of the tour?

No, the cost of the hotel is not included in the price of the tour registration.

I want to register but can only attend one day of the tour. Is this possible?

This two-day tour has been curated to paint a complete picture of how immigration happens across San Diego and Tijuana. It is highly encouraged for attendees to join us for both days.  If there is a reason you cannot travel internationally, or another barrier to your participation, you can reach out to Aline Racic at [email protected].

Can I attend this event if I do not fund the border region of San Diego?

All are welcome, but capacity is limited so we will prioritize attendance for those funding, or planning to fund, border work in this region.
