If you weren’t in the social impact sector, what would you be doing?

I think film curation is really interesting, I also love historians who research very specific topics in the arts. I get invested in little things and I like to analyze different works of art and their impact.

Favorite accounts to follow on social media?

I follow Bright Wall/Dark Room (@BWDR) on Twitter; they put out editorials and reviews about television and film, and I always find their writers to be incredibly thoughtful. Their July 2022 Issue was centered on the theme “Voyeur” and featured a great piece about David Cronenberg’s Videodrome. Aside from that, I like to follow Bodega Cats (@Bodegacats_) – they just post pictures of cats spotted in bodegas, and it’s adorable.

What is the last book you read?

I recently re-read Night of the Mannequins by Stephen Graham Jones. It’s a novella so it’s a bit on the shorter side, but a great coming-of-age slasher that I’d recommend for any horror fans out there.

Where is your favorite place to go in San Diego or Imperial County and why?

Re-Animated Records in La Mesa is probably one of my favorite spots in San Diego. There are not a lot of video stores in San Diego anymore, but most record stores I frequent have a little DVD section. The special thing about Re-Animated is that their movie section is huge and has a nice variety of genres. Everyone who works there is so nice too; I always feel welcome there.

What is one surprising thing to know about you?

I really love cooking and learning about food, I watch a lot of cooking videos on YouTube. I’ll admit I’m not the best cook but, I enjoy learning about the process and the cultural histories behind dishes. I don’t view food as just nutrition – to me it’s social, historical, and personal.
