Foundations on the Hill 2021
Tuesday, March 16, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - Thursday, March 25, 2021 @ 12:00 pm
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Foundations on the Hill (FOTH) 2021 will be a virtual event. During this unique Foundations on the Hill, participants will hear from keynote speakers, receive detailed and thoughtful legislative briefings, interact with members of Congress and legislative staff, and participate in immersive panel discussions and breakout sessions. Additionally, FOTH 2021 attendees will have the chance to participate in an unprecedented digital advocacy and outreach experience, using social media and an interactive advocacy portal that communicates with Congress instantaneously. FOTH is your opportunity to share the work of philanthropy so that Members of Congress can take the best practices developed from your grantmaking and scale it up to improve the lives of millions who call our country home.
As we approach a critical year with a transition in administration, newly elected members of the House of Representatives, and renewed policy priorities, FOTH21 is a crucial time to build and strengthen our relationships with policymakers that will have a profound impact on grantmaking and issues we care deeply about – from the 2020 Census to equitable COVID-19 relief, from housing to healthcare. Our digital advocacy will help our elected officials understand the value of philanthropy to the social and economic fabric of our country, and to stress the importance of philanthropy and government working as partners to ensure the continued health of our sector.
Registration
This event is for members of Catalyst, Northern California Grantmakers and Southern California Grantmakers. Registration fee is $99.

What is Foundations on the Hill (FOTH)?
As a part of Philanthropy California, Catalyst and our members join foundation leaders from across the country to ensure policymakers in Washington, DC understand the landscapes of the communities we serve. It is the one opportunity a year that foundations – whether their first foray into public policy or their thirtieth year on the Hill – speaks with a strong, visible, and collective voice to our federal policymakers.
The purpose of FOTH21 is to:
- Educate legislators and the administration about philanthropy’s role in civil society, the importance of the Census, and best practices on issues that you fund;
- Develop and cultivate relationships with fellow policy-oriented peers and policymakers; and,
- Encourage legislators to view philanthropy as thought partners and a resource on key public policy issues.
Hosted by United Philanthropy Forum, FOTH is a multi-day event that brings together hundreds of foundation leaders from across the country to meet with Congress and discuss issues of critical importance to philanthropy. We must change the unrealistic expectation that philanthropy will step in to “fill-the-gap” and instead educate policymakers on the crucial role that philanthropy already plays in innovation and capacity-building.
If you are interested in joining Philanthropy CA’s FOTH delegation or have additional questions, please contact Rhiannon McAfee at [email protected].
