SoCal Grantmakers 2021 Virtual Annual Conference
Tuesday, September 28, 2021 @ 9:30 am - Thursday, September 30, 2021 @ 1:00 pm
The SoCal Grantmakers 2021 Annual Conference will occur virtually during two half days on Tuesday, September 28th from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM and Thursday, September 30th from 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM PST.
Rise Up: Closing the Racial Wealth Divide is an invitation for funders to confront the wide and persistent racial wealth gap in the United States that has prevented Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other communities of color from building generational wealth and achieving economic prosperity. The racial wealth divide represents centuries of exploitative economic systems, racism, and policies that have resulted in white households having roughly ten times as much wealth as the typical Black and Latinx families. According to a study from 2000, American Indian and Alaska Native households only have eight cents of wealth for every dollar of the average white household.
At SCG’s 2021 Virtual Conference, we will learn about the forces upholding the racial wealth divide and the strategies needed to confront our country’s legacies of inequity. We are excited to hear from community, government, philanthropic, and other systems change leaders to explore the bold actions needed to create an inclusive economy and ensure an equitable recovery.
We hope you’ll join us for two mornings dedicated to closing the racial wealth divide. Collectively, we can RISE UP and take the bold actions needed to achieve economic liberation for our communities.
