Join the Climate Funders’ Collaborative (Baja/Imperial/San Diego Region) for a network-wide gathering exploring two different centers of building decarbonization. We will connect with partners leading efforts to install solar throughout the region, helping spark a green economy, cleaner air, affordable reliable electricity and climate resilience. Register here.

Green energy is a key path towards decarbonization, in building, transportation and energy sectors. Several funders active in the CFC are engaged in this work, including BQuest Foundation, Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation, Futures Unbound, CollectiveSun and the San Diego Foundation. These funders and others are supporting community organizations and their priorities in support of a just transition away from fossil fuels towards a renewable economy. Working to ensure low-income, communities of color are engaged in this process is needed in order to meet Justice 40 goals set at the national level.

This convening provides critical space for funders in climate to discuss, learn more about solutions that are out there. We’ll explore on the ground solutions, engage in conversation with key partners and learn from specific projects. Our first location, the Sherman Heights Community Center, is in the process of getting solar through San Diego Community Power, an initiative supported by several CFC funders.

Several initiatives, agencies and partnerships are facilitating a just transition. For example, San Deigo Community Power, a clean energy grant program supporting infrastructure implementation, public education, workforce development. Beyond this, community engagement and power building help build constituencies towards passing and implementing policies and plans, such as the national strategy towards decarbonization and the City of San Diego’s Climate Action Plan. Philanthropy plays an important role in this space and at this convening, we’ll have a space to reflect on the region’s accomplishments, challenges and future opportunities.

Meeting objectives include:

  1. Deepen awareness around issues related to decarbonization, solar, community development and climate resilience.
  2. Understand how to leverage public funding to support these types of projects
  3. Connect with funders interested in decarbonization related issues and opportunities.
  4. Explore how a funder collaborative could increase impact and help leverage regional, statewide and national/federal funding streams in support of climate resilient communities.

This gathering builds upon the engaging conversations and gatherings the Climate Funders’ Collaborative hosted over the last two years (which included a visit to Barrio Logan, the University of San Diego, Imperial Valley, Baja California and Mission Bay).
