SUMMARY:Scaling the Use of Loan Guarantees in Impact Investing
DESCRIPTION:- The session will demystify the perceived challenges to implementing loan guarantees, such as sourcing opportunities, conducting due diligence, and structuring the deal. The goal is to highlight strategies that utilize partnerships and collaborations with other funders or intermediaries to inspire investments from those who might be hesitant without a guarantee in place. If you're curious about harnessing the power of guarantees to support communities - alongside grants or direct investments - this session is for you.

SUMMARY:Investment Strategies to Address Climate Change in California
DESCRIPTION:- In California, heatwaves are becoming more common, snow is melting earlier in spring, and in the southern region, less rain is falling. The state's climate is changing drastically. These changes are likely to further decrease the supply of water, increase the risk of wildfires, and threaten coastal development and ecosystems, impacting the health, livelihoods, and futures of residents across the state. It will require substantive changes to protect what we have today and preserve our natural resources for future generations.

SUMMARY:Addressing Drought Relief and Water Resilience California
DESCRIPTION:- Unprecedented levels of drought continue to plague California and show no signs of slowing down. These historic consequences not only signal the impacts of a changing climate, but also point to the continued over-subscription of available water resources and underscore the importance of directing strategies and funding towards long-term drought response and resilience.

SUMMARY:2021 Corporate Philanthropy Institute
DESCRIPTION:- The world is different. We've collectively gone through a shutdown of our everyday lives, ongoing threats to our democracy, expanding divisiveness in our communities, and racial injustice and inequity lay bare. As we rush back to normalcy, this experience offers an opportunity to address the challenges and significant issues we bore witness to over the last year — the opportunity to advance systemic change for our communities and tackle the issues that have plagued our country for generations.

SUMMARY:Guaranteed Income: Moving from Pilots to Policy
DESCRIPTION:- Millions of Americans are already living paycheck to paycheck without sufficient liquid resources that can be quickly converted into cash to deal with financial shocks. In fact, prior to the pandemic, nearly 40 percent of Americans did not have enough savings on hand to cover a $400 emergency. COVID-19 has exposed long-standing racial and economic inequities that have been left unaddressed. One solution that has gained enormous attention in recent years is a guaranteed basic income. In fact in the U.S. there are over 50 guaranteed basic income pilots with over 20 in California alone! With so many pilots taking place, larger questions remain… what is the longer term policy solution and how do we get there?

SUMMARY:Advocacy 101
DESCRIPTION:- Much of our time is spent fine-tuning effective grantmaking and investment practices, but how many of us look at the policies that create a need for grantmaking? This session will explore a powerful tool that is available to you and your grantees/investees: advocacy. While funding can address impacts that have already occurred, changes in public policy yield a new environment that creates opportunity and prevents disproportionate outcomes in people's lives. Simply put, advocacy leverages the impact of available funds so you can stretch your grant dollars and see more far-reaching results.
