SUMMARY:United We Stand: Creating an Inclusive California through a Robust Movement Building Ecosystem
DESCRIPTION:- A California that allows all residents to reach their full potential requires both a focus on racial equity, inclusion, and justice, and a commitment to challenging the systemic issues that permeate our society and government, even in this great state. The ongoing narrative over the last 15 months demonstrates the level of inequity that continues to exist; shows how far we’ve yet to go, and reinforces the need for a long-term commitment to structural change that advances racial equity and social justice.

SUMMARY:Racism and the Economy: Understanding Racial Capitalism | FRE Session 2
DESCRIPTION:- In this second session of the Foundations of Racial Equity Series, we explore racial capitalism, which describes the current economic system of extracting social and economic value from a person of a different racial identity. Racial capitalism is based on the theft, exclusion and exploitation of the land, labor, and capital of people of color. Philanthropy—as a social, political, and economic strategy of society’s wealthiest people, mostly white men, and institutions that “do good” while moving wealth without tax exposure—upholds racial capitalism.

SUMMARY:Intersecting Equity\, Health\, Housing\, and Workforce with Aging: New Philanthropic Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:- This past year, California encountered its most challenging period in recent history. The pandemic exposed systemic barriers that have long been neglected across health, housing, and the workforce while also illustrating the impact that structural inequities and racism have had on Black, Indigenous, and Latinx older adults who died of COVID-19 at much higher rates.

SUMMARY:Strategies for Impact Investing in Imperial County
DESCRIPTION:- Imperial County is located in the Cali Baja Mega-Region, a globally unique bi-national location for business investments that is uniquely placed for foreign trade zones, international distribution capabilities, bi-national alliances, and expansion of business and economic activity on both sides of the border. Imperial County has one of the most productive agricultural industries in California and has also become a hotbed of renewable energy projects, which present opportunities for impact investments.

SUMMARY:Incarcerated Firefighters: At the Intersection of Abolition\, Workforce Development\, and Wildfire Resilience
DESCRIPTION:- As California wildfires devastate communities throughout the state, significant financial, material, and human resources are deployed to support recovery and reduce their threats on communities. Despite the well-publicized socioeconomic and health impacts of wildfires and philanthropic support, little attention is paid to the experience and needs of incarcerated firefighters. Incarcerated firefighters risk their lives to protect Californians while simultaneously experiencing the racism and oppression of imprisonment and criminalization. At the height of last year’s historic wildfire season, many trained, incarcerated firefighters were sidelined from the state’s firefighting efforts due to closures of prison firefighting camps as a result of COVID-19 outbreaks. Furthermore, many incarcerated firefighters are paid minimally for working in dangerous conditions and are unable to use their skills to obtain municipal firefighting careers upon their release due to their criminal records.
