DESCRIPTION:- In June 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom formally issued an apology through Executive Order N-15-19 (https://www.gov.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/6.18.19-Executive-Order.pdf) on behalf of California to California Native American Peoples for the many instances of violence, mistreatment and neglect inflicted upon California Native Americans throughout the state’s history. This represented a major and unprecedented step towards correcting the historical record and acknowledging the state’s wrongdoing towards Native communities.
